Popchips review

Everyone was intrigued to see what the contents of this mystery package would be when the postman "popped" it through the door at The Madhouse. (Well, actually he didn't pop it through the door, it was too big to fit through the letterbox so he had to ring the bell and deliver it by hand, but you get the idea !) Being very obedient, not to mention curious, we followed the instruction to "pop open" the box.

Nestled inside, we found a lovely selection of Popchips that everybody was very keen to try. Although the taste test is important, I wanted to do my homework first and scuttled off to discover more about the brand. A bit of research revealed the following :
  • popchips, one of the fastest growing snack brands in america, has landed in the UK. never fried. never baked.popchips are popped with heat and pressure to make a naturally delicious crisp with all the flavour and less than half the fat of fried crisps, fewer calories and none of the fake colors or flavours (or greasy fingers) that gives snacking a bad name. and by the way, there are less than 100 calories for more than 17 crisps in each single-serve bag
  • fans include ashton kutcher, heidi klum, sean (diddy) combs and bruno mars
  • available at Waitrose in five different flavours, including original, barbeque, salt & pepper, sea salt & vinegar and sour cream & onion.  £0.69 (RRP) for a single-serve bag and £1.89 (RRP) for a share bag (85g)

Well, apart from their obvious aversion to capital letters, that all sounds brilliant. But what would they taste like ?

Well the answer is ... very nice indeed ! The girls weren't keen on the barbecue ones because they found them too spicy but apart from that, everyone loved them. Many healthy snacks lose on taste but Popchips have managed to come up with the perfect alternative to crisps that are delicious but lower in calories and fat. The fact that they don't give you greasy fingers when you eat them is also a huge advantage, especially if you have kids who love wiping their greasy fingers everywhere or if you're a naughty teacher who likes nibbling while working through piles of marking !

I love the snacks themselves but I also love the snackers' credo which is proudly displayed on the back of the box. I've been telling you all about my efforts to lose weight so it's great to find a truly delicious, guilt-free snack that I can still enjoy.

But don't just take my word for it ! In a moment, you'll be able to enter a giveaway here on the blog to win a whopping 24 single-serve bags - watch this space !

  2. Interesting to see snacks being reviewed by a French woman! I have this vision of French people not snacking at all, fabulously disciplined and healthy but of course I know I'm generalizing.. Hehe, would these go down well in France? They are at least healthier than other snacks, but I personally like my snacks to taste a little bit naughty too ...

    1. Ahh but I'm not French, I'm 100% British !! lol People do eat a lot of crisps in France actually - French teens snack just like kids all over the world, and the grown-ups love the tradition of the apéritif, whereby huge quantities of crisps, peanuts and crackers are consumed just before sitting down for a big meal. Hmmmm.
