The Madhouse Family's New Ways With Boursin

As we're a French/English family, you can pretty much guarantee that we will always have a half eaten pack of Boursin lurking in the back of the fridge. It's such a staple ingredient of French cuisine that we tend to take it for granted. It's perfect smeared on a crusty piece of baguette to finish off a meal but, when we received this lovely selection of Boursin products to try out, I decided to try to get a bit more innovative and see what else we could do with them.

The Garlic & Herbs Boursin is the timeless classic and is invariably the one that we end up buying. The creaminess of the cheese nicely complements the slightly harsh bite of the garlic and the cool topnotes of the herbs. It's a classic combination, but I wanted to get a bit more inventive.

You may have seen my recipe a few weeks ago for Boursin-stuffed Chicken which makes a lovely twist on Chicken Kiev and which the whole family loved. I used the Garlic & Herbs Boursin but any of the varieties would work so it might be nice to experiment with the different flavours.

The Sun-ripened Tomato, Onion & Chive variety was a new one to us and we all loved it so much, it got munched before I even managed to cook with it ! This is a lovely summery one, with the juiciness of the tomatoes really complementing the onion and chive flavours. This requires nothing more than some crusty bread to really finish off a roast dinner in style.

The Boursin Minis are a fabulous addition to a salad and would also be a convenient option for picnics because they can be eaten straight from the resealable box with your fingers.

And, last but not least, the Black Pepper Boursin has a lovely zing of pepperiness that really livens up rather bland dishes like this lettuce and roast chicken wrap.

The Madhouse Mini Testers also want me to try to recreate one of the dishes that they love from their school canteen - some Boursin melted in crème fraîche and served with chicken breast or fish. Definitiely sounds like it should work too.

Boursin also have some lovely recipes of their own which I will put in a separate blogpost because they sound too good to miss. Watch this space !
